Looking a fun, scotish romance with lots of humor, check this novel out. Julie Garwood should write another novels about these characters, or the secondary ones. For a smart woman, she was always slow to get in on the day to day works.
The main and secondary characters were all great. Jamie is a character in her own world, and the patience of her husband was well written. The bride by Julie Garwood is a beautiful novel.
He is a smart man to accept his wife faults, sense of directions, how easily she gets in to trouble. You'll not be disappointed. I am a huge fan of audio books and the narrator was excellent.
This book just was not long enough.
I wish that I had a man like Alec. The characters and their story will stick with long after the book is over. I wasn't surprised that I ended up loving the book as much as I did, not after all the recommendations and the perfect story written by Garwood. The story was amazing, brilliantly written and delivered. I can now say that I am a proud Julie Garwood fan. After hearing raving reviews about Julie's work over the past four or five years, I finally found two of her books in my local bookstore and quickly grabbed them up.
:)5/5 STARS. The characters were well developed and dynamic, and before you got half way through the book you find yourself falling in love with them. A wonderfully exciting tale of medieval love and adventure in the highlands, told by an amazing author. He accept Mary even though she wasn't his child, and he proved to be a wonderful father. Their love scenes were both tender and intense, passionate and steamy, and even playful at times.
The covers on the books, well, on the newest reprint of the books at least, are breathtakingly beautiful and that alone made me love the book. I can't wait to read more of her books, and I hope that some of the beloved characters we met in this book will return in one of her other books. It showed the emotional and physically side of their relationship nicely, which is something that is sometimes lacking in other romances. Plus, it is set in my favorite country and time period: Scotland in the medieval times. He loved to rouse Jamie's spark and passion, which is also something I enjoyed: Both the fact that he was so intrigued by having such a strong woman as his wife and the fact that she wasn't a wimpy heroine, which I cannot stand in a romance novel *or any book, really*. When he started to fall for Jamie, and she started to fall for him in return, I almost had to wipe away a few tears, their story and connection were that strong and intense, almost gut-wrenchingly so.
Garwood knows how to write a story that is both interesting and romantic, sensual and sexual, depending on the specific scene, funny and sweet, witty and charming. One of the things I loved the most about Alec and Jamie's story was the fact that while Alec was very possessive and strong *A total Highland Larid, of course.*, he also proved to be caring, funny, tender and loving.
Also, I would like there to be more to the story. The scenes were not done tastefully but I viewed them as trashy which was a big turn off for me. I have read this book as a recommendation of her works in a discussion forum. The writer is using a rich language in her books creating men with honor and faith. She is one of the best writers to write great endings. Her ending has amazed me.One of the concerns that I most disliked about the book is the vivid love scenes described in the book.
You;ll fall in love with the Heroine, she is hillarious. She has a true heart. Maybe when we read a dud with a shocking Hero we should send the Author a email suggesting they read this as a guide for their Hero description. This would have to be one of the best books I have ever read. This book is a prime example of Historical ROMANCE- ROMANCE being the main word. She truly loves him and thinks him so handsome, he isn't really but she truly see's him as handsome and loves him so. Some books I have read should not be in the Romantic category they should be in the Drama category.
She has totally run the families castle and she looks after everyone, heals everyone, loves everyone. I thank the Author so much I have read this book again and again and again. Maybe those writers need to read this book to get a true idea what a Hero is. Her mother was the second wife and pregnant with her when she married. I would love all romantic books to be written with Heroines and Hero's like these, all to often we have a Hero that would never be classed as a Hero at all.
It has everything romance, laughter, drama, embaressment. The Hero is so big and tough and never thought he would love, but she just is so honest and I think he sees her love for him and he is just such a gonner. I love the way she interacts with the Hero, he tries to hide that he's laughing because she comes out with some amazing stuff and he doesn't want to embaress her. She's bought up to believe that she's average but she is just so beautiful, inside and out. She thinks that for her to be loved she has to do everything for them and she has all her life.
This one fits that definition. Garwood is one of my favorite historical romance authors (her contemporaries aren't as good, but that's another review). Well done. The tension/romance between the h/h is just right, with plenty of witty dialogue and romantic love scenes. Her stories are funny and "light" (not as emotionally wrenching as other historical romance authors can be), and I always feel good when I finish one. The only books that get 5 stars from me are those that are keepers (rereads).
